Periyar National Park – Elephant & Tiger Reserve in Kerala

Periyar National Park is an elephant reserve and tiger reserve located in Kerala. It has announced the national park in 1982. Fauna in Periyar national park:-

Periyar have more than 35 species of mammals. It has a total of 24 Tigers other mammals including Elephant, gaur, pigs, sambar, sloth bear and etc. There are more than 270 species of birds these bird species are local as well as migratory. Some bird species are-
1. Pigeon
2. Hornbill
3. Eagle
4. Black necked stork
 Through a bird watchers eye one can easily find the similarity between okhla bird sanctuary which is located in Uttar Pradesh.
Tiger in Periyar National park
Periyar is also a Tiger reserve where Tigers are seen hovering often. If we talk about the reptile family in this national park then there are more than 45 species of reptiles including 30 snakes and 13 lizards. Some reptiles are cobra, pythons, grogs, Asian toad and etc.   
Periyar national park is linked with Trivendrum by road and other major cities of Kerala such as Madurai and Cochin. These two cities are also the airport terminals.
You can enjoy the beautiful sunshine and sunset by sitting around the periyar lake. By involving so many Eco tourism activity you can explore the beauty of that park. The major attraction of the park is an elephant junction elephant feeding  and bathing can make you fan of the wildlife.
Tourist can also enjoy the oldest martial art performance which is called “Kallaripayutu”.
When To visit- The park is open in all the 12 months, but October to February are the best time to visit in Periyar National park. This is the only park which is open in during monsoon.
