Nagarhole National Park Karnataka – Reviews & Safari Information

Nagarhole National Park knows with one more name Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is a national park situated in Karnataka. This National Park spread Approximately 644 square kilo meter area in two district of Karnataka, Kodagu and Mysore. But most of part covered by Kodagu District. The summer temperature vary 30 to 35 degree centigrade and at winter 10 to 20 degrees.

Longitude: 76°5′ – 76°25′ E

Nagarhole National Park known for its rich forest area and wild life. Its name refers to Snake and hole of Snake. Some other people believe its name refer Cobra river that river which runs east to its centre.

Nagarhole was establish as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and later it was upgraded in 1988 into a national park. This park also declare as a tiger reserve in 1999.

There is over 250 species of birds in Nagarhole National Park. White-backed vulture, lesser adjutant, greater spotted eagle, Malabar Trogon, Black Woodpecker, Honey Buzzards, Peregrine, Blackheaded Cuckoo Shrikes, Scarlet Minivets and several species of Barbets, Owls, Cuckoos, Flycatchers bird founded in park.



TigerElephantChitalLeopardSambarbear and Indian bison are some animals that are commonly found here. This park also came in tiger Reserve Park.  Primarily you can found here Indian bison. That comes in IUCN Red List. The Indian bison is the tallest species of wild cattle. And here founded three species of predators that is tiger, leopard and wild dogs present at an equivalent density.


Reptiles found here are mugger, vine snake, wolf snake, rat snake, bamboo pit viper, Russell’s viper common krait and Indian rock python.

Accommodation near Nagarhole National Park includes Kabini River Lodge, Serai Kabini, Orange County and Kings Sanctuary. There are some hotel who provides accommodation facility for travelers. Safari is available here.
