Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple-

Patal Bhuvaneshwar is one among the divine cave temple resting in the lap Himalayas- 14 km from Gangolihat in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. It is located in a small alluring hamlet Bhuvaneshwar. It is said that this magical 90 ft deep and 160 m long cave enshrine Lord Shiva and thirty-three crore Gods. The limestone rock formation has some mystical aura, people who visit there can feel a magical effect of that place.
 The infinite stalactite and stalagmite figures of various shapes, take us to the another world, a place untouched with reality, it seems we are traveling through some illusion.

Patal Bhuwaneswar Temple – Architecture

Beautifully created by nature, this spectacular has a narrow tunnel-like opening which leads to a number of caves. For the convenience of the pilgrimage visiting there, the government has facilitated the whole cave with illuminating lightings. It is said that this alluring series of a cave was formed due to the flow of rivers, isn’t it seems magical?
People visiting says, they can feel the presence of divine power, enchanting beauty of nature left them mesmerized, they were lost in that heavenly land.

You will be surprised with the fact that this astonishing cave temple is believed equal to the age of the earth. I know it is hard to believe, but yes it is also mentioned in the 103 chapter of Manaskhand of “Skanda Purana”. I bet after knowing this you must be getting goose bumps!!
The locals and folks stay in the area say, that the first human who steps in the cave was king “Rituparna” of Suraya Dynasty during the “Tretayuga”. It also said that Sheshnaag” himself acted as his guide, as he faced many demons inside the cave.

Initially, there was four gateway of the cave named Randwar’, ‘Paapdwar’, ‘Dharamdwar’ and ‘Mokshadwar’. But soon after the death of the great warrior Ravana, The paapdwar was closed and after the great battle of Kurukshetra  “Mahabharata” the Randwar -the road to war, was closed. Presently only two dwars are opened. You can witness of Kali Bhairav, Amravati of Indra, hairs of Lord Shiva and many other things, which will leave stun inside the caves of Patal Bhuvaneshwar

It is said that in “Dwaparyuga” this cave was again found by the Pandavas. In Kaliyuga, Adi Shankara Acharya discovered this cave and since 1191, this place is the center of faith worship and gateway to the magical world of Lord Shiva.
